The LA Clippers May Already Have Backup Point Guard Solutions: Terance Mann and Jerome Robinson
Terance Mann
The LA Clippers other option comes in the form of rookie Terance Mann. Taken in the second round, many fans didn’t know what we would get out of Mann.
We really didn’t know we’d get a Patrick Beverley-esque player. Don’t believe me? Just look at the leaderboards for Summer League thus far. Mann is currently second in Summer League in rebounding, averaging 11.3 in three games.
Yes, he stands 6’6″, which is big for a guard, but that’s just insane. You can’t teach hustle.
Mann has also proven himself as both a scorer and playmaker. In the Clippers victory over the Wizards on Tuesday night, he nearly had a triple-double, scoring 15 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out nine assists.
Yes, this should be taken with a grain of salt, as Summer League isn’t always the best litmus test. Still, Mann has looked great, especially for a second round pick. The Clippers don’t need to win every game this season, so giving him minutes during random games may be to the benefit of the team. He could easily grow into the position while surrounded by players like Lou and Montrezl who can take the heat off of him.
It’s possible neither is a long-term solution nor that they pan out be backup level. Still, there will always be players in the buyout market later in the year, so what harm is there in trying Robinson and Mann as backups?
