Jerome Robinson
Robinson is probably the better choice to run the backup point right now. He is entering his second year after seeing his role increase throughout his rookie season to the point he had an impact in a couple of playoffs appearances.
Being drafted right behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, many don’t think of Rome as a potential backup point guard. He was more touted for his ability to create shots coming out of Boston College.
While at school though, Robinson did run a lot of point for the Eagles. In fact, he averaged 3.3 assists in his three years at BC.
In Summer League, we are getting more glimpses of Robinson’s playmaking ability. Through three games, he’s put up just 2.2 assists, but his ability has been seen throughout.
To his benefit, he wouldn’t have to handle all of the playmaking duties with the second unit. Partnering up with Lou Williams, the two could split duties while also being continuous scoring threats. While Williams is handling the ball, Robinson is capable of spacing the floor and will make defenders stay honest instead of helping on the Williams/Montrezl Harrell pick-and-roll.
Robinson already has a year under his belt in the league, so it may be time to test him some as the backup point.
