Landry Shamet has quickly placed his stamp on the LA Clippers with his above average three-point shooting and now has yet another accolade to add to his resume as he will play with the Select Team with Team USA this August.
Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted news pertaining to the LA Clippers, not about Kawhi, calm down everyone, but about 22-year old guard Landry Shamet being selected to the Team USA Select Team this August for the country’s National Camp.
As many Clippers fans know, Shamet became a mid-season addition to the Clippers via the Tobias Harris trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. Many were surprised that Philadelphia was so reluctant to trade the guard from Wichita State but nevertheless he saw success with the Clippers, eventually gaining the starting shooting guard role heading into the postseason.
Shamet had some impressive games and moments this season, ranging from his 21 point outburst against the New York Knicks to his game winner in Oracle Arena against the Golden State Warriors in round one of the NBA Playoffs.
Shamet more than deserves these honors after his rookie season where he posted 9.1 PPG on 42% shooting from beyond the arc and this honor of playing with Team USA should give him more than enough confidence heading into next season.
His selection to Team USA is one that signifies his elite scoring from the three-point line and his unique style of play that mirrors the likes of Klay Thompson and Joe Harris, creating off-ball movement and spacing to find open pockets in the defense and as Ralph Lawler would say, score a “Bingo”.
Many also did not recognize the talent Shamet possessed throughout the season because he was overshadowed by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but maybe this selection to Team USA will give him the extra boost he needs to pass the 10 PPG threshold and make a real contribution to a team that could be in title contention next season with the right free agent signings.
Shamet will be playing alongside 2019 number one overall pick Zion Williamson as well, so Shamet will see no shortage of talent around him at this camp and can likely find improvements in his game and work on them for the remainder of the offseason.
Shamet will see action with Team USA at the camp in August and we’ll see just how much confidence he gains from playing around other star-studded young talent.
