When asked about recent reports saying he bought a home in Toronto, Kawhi Leonard denied doing so. This is good news for LA Clippers fans.
The Kawhi Leonard free agency saga may not have officially started yet, but with the Toronto Raptors firmly in control of the NBA Finals with a 3-1 lead, fans and media alike are starting to focus more on where the superstar will go this summer.
Last week, reports came out that Leonard had purchased a property in Toronto. With his decision whether or not to stay in Canada longer than this season approaching, this report alarmed many Clipper fans. Yes, there was the possibility that he was just looking to make a real estate investment, but the more likely outcome was that he was looking to stay long term.
Today, much to the relief of Clipper Nation, Leonard denied these reports.
This is a good news, bad news situation. The good news is that the reports aren’t true. Kawhi doesn’t have a home in Toronto. He does, however, have a home in San Diego that he purchased earlier in the year. Point: Clippers. The bad news is that he qualified this statement with the word “yet”.
The inclusion of that word makes it seem that he is at the very least entertaining the idea of staying. With the constant focus of everything Kawhi does and says during these Finals, this doesn’t particularly move the needle.
In fact, nothing he’s said has really been substantial. A few days ago, we speculated that he at least said the word “go” in reference to where he’d sign in the summer, but that was pure speculation.
Leonard is probably one of, if not THE, hardest player to read in the league. There’s no telling what he is thinking and fans of both the Raptors and the Clippers probably will get no real indication until June 30 when players and teams can begin talking officially.
