LA Clippers’ free agent target Kawhi Leonard still gave no indication of where he was leaning for free agency this summer during an NBA Finals interview.

In an interview aired Friday on ESPN with Rachel Nichols, Kawhi Leonard claimed that he currently has no thoughts about free agency and won’t until the NBA Finals are over. Even though it’s not a lot, this has to give LA Clippers’ fans a little hope.

Kawhi answered Rachel’s question about free agency just how we all expected him to. He’s currently on the biggest possible stage and as he should be, is completely focused on winning The NBA Finals. But, how easy would it be to say something about his current situation or even give a subtle, “I like what the franchise has done this year”?

This, obviously, is complete reaching on my part. Ask the Clipperholics writers and they’ll tell you that my feeling on whether or not Kawhi will join the Clips this summer has wavered more than a seesaw during a tornado.

Still, for those who are grasping at straws like I am, let’s take a look at the quote in that tweet.

"“I’m not even thinking about signing or what team I’ma go to…”"

Go to. Doesn’t that imply he doesn’t intend to stay? It’s a subtle wording, partnered with his pauses and cues that makes me pause and think he might still be on his way out whether or not he wins a title. A few weeks back, Woj said just as much.

Both Clippers and Raptors fans have to be a little nervous with free agency starting in just 23 days. Leonard is a complete enigma and probably the hardest player to read in the entire league. Searching for subtleties like this is all we have.

The Clippers, like the Raptors, have done everything in their power to position themselves to have Kawhi’s talents on the team for years to come. With the Finals being his main concern, both fan bases will just have to sit back and wait until he can finally focus on free agency and make a decision.
