The LA Clippers should have plenty of decisions to make this summer when it comes to signing a star, but they’ll need to focus on their own players as well.

All signs are pointing to the LA Clippers having an enormous summer. With plenty of young talent blossoming and an endless pit of money to spend, the Clippers could very well vault themselves into title contention as soon as a select few players put pen to paper.

Of course, it won’t just be that simple. There are a lot of other orders of business to take care of first, and acting like any of the events that could unfold this summer are a given is a little foolish.

As important as signing those big-name players is, though, the Clippers need to have equal focus when it comes to bringing back pieces of the team that made this season so special.

Unfortunately for fans, the team won’t have the assets to return the squad exactly how it was if signing a superstar is a top priority. There will be tough decisions to make, and based on their performance in the playoffs, some of the players will demand more money than the Clippers will be able to offer.

But before we get to the money aspect of it, we should focus on which players are actually deserving in the first place, and which ones would fit in with the potential team that the Clippers could field next season. Because of that, this piece will be about which players the team should consider bringing back — so not every player that gets a “yes” will necessarily be able to return.

As far as the two-way players go, I’ll be running a followup piece in the coming days that addresses that question.

Now then, let’s get into this. Our first decision is an easy one.
