Up until now, most of the LA Clippers players have been mostly one-dimensional. That brings us to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the rookie swingman that may play as many as three positions this season — and excel at each one of them.

Already projecting to be an intelligent, two-way star, Gilgeous-Alexander is finding his way into the hearts of fans. Whether he’s dishing no-look dimes or throwing down vicious poster jams, he’s often looked like one of the best players on the floor.

Perhaps Gilgeous-Alexander’s style of play is what draws fans in most. Smooth and thorough, the 20-year-old rookie plays an efficient style of basketball that usually ends with a steady drive to the rim or an open look created for a teammate. He’s a fantastic playmaker. His silky frame perfectly compliments his game, too. Standing 6’6″ with a near-seven-foot wingspan and weighing in around 180 pounds, Gilgeous-Alexander weaves his way around defenders like a child in one of those egg-and-spoon races — urgently, but with great care.

We saw Rivers use Gilgeous-Alexander as a wing a few times in the preseason, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him do so again at some point during the regular season. With a plethora of guards, he’ll need to get crafty to ensure they each get the playing time they deserve this year.

Shai could work on his shot a bit, both inside and outside the arc, but that’s really our only complaint. This kid is phenomenal, and he’s only going to get better as the season progresses. Don’t be surprised if he’s taken over starting duties by year’s end, or if he’s named to any of the league’s All-Rookie teams.

His ceiling is limitless.
