Despite being on the trade block for several weeks, Jimmy Butler has not been moved. The Los Angeles Clippers will likely stay as is for now.

Another Monday and still no real news on the Jimmy Butler front. The Los Angeles Clippers now seem like a long shot to acquire the All-Star, but as it is, so does every other team in the league.

Over the weekend, the Minnesota Timberwolves almost seemed poised to make a deal with the Miami Heat, but the talks broke down after the Wolves continued to demand more. Stop me if you have heard this before.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN confirmed that the Wolves have lost a lot of leverage on the market should they try and re-enter it after getting so far with Miami.

This bodes well for the Clippers. As long as Butler remains a member of the Timberwolves, his price will continue to drop. Miami could pose a threat to re-sign Butler, but they seem adamant in not giving up too much to acquire him. Butler is understandably frustrated with the situation.

While no trade has developed, the Clippers seem content to keep moving on as constructed. Despite reports last week that the two teams had engaged in talks after their preseason matchup, nothing came to fruition. The team is undefeated in preseason (for whatever that is worth) and ultimately seem fine with playing out this season with their current roster and focusing on free agency in 2019.

While getting Butler could jump-start their summer plans, the team will still likely pursue the likes of Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard. They reportedly will also look to re-sign Tobias Harris despite talks on an extension breaking down earlier this summer.

The Butler saga looks like it will be ongoing and may not be resolved until after the regular season begins. The Clippers are seemingly out of the sweepstakes for now, but with the ineptitude of the Minnesota front office, anything is still possible.
