After we published a story about Blake Griffin’s comments on Los Angeles Clippers fans, the All-Star clarified his statement.

Earlier today, we published an article on Blake Griffin and his comments comparing the Los Angeles Clippers’ fanbase to the Detroit Pistons’.

You can find the original article here, which includes this quote from Griffin’s radio interview earlier this week:

"…I quickly realized how invested everybody is in this team. And the fans from day one, this is a true sports town. They really embrace sports, and that’s not something I’ve been used to for the past nine years. It’s really nice to be in a place where fans are knowledgeable and they really are diehard fans"

As the article gained some traction, Griffin took the time to reach out and clarify what he meant.

As you can see in the tweet, Griffin didn’t want to slight fans of the Clippers.

Instead, Griffin points out that Los Angeles is not a sports town. While the city does have multiple franchises across every major professional sport, he is correct. LA is a hub for so many things and if sports were removed, the city would still have much more to offer than a place such as Detroit.

Griffin does acknowledge that Clippers’ fans are diehard, which is just after many have been a part of one of the most tragic franchise in all of professional sports.

After he responded, several fans made sure he knew he was still loved despite no longer being with the team. Griffin still remains a fan favorite and will likely receive a huge ovation upon his return later this season.

Other fans still felt that he was backpedaling on the comments, but the fact that he actually took the time to respond and clarify in a civil manner seems to show that he didn’t have any ill will in his original statements.

After facing off once in Detroit last year, Griffin will make his first return to Los Angeles to face the Clippers on January 12 as the two teams square off for the first of two meetings.
