DeAndre Jordan doesn’t exercise option with Clippers, will be free agent
DeAndre Jordan has declined to exercise his player option with the Los Angeles Clippers and will become a free agent.
DeAndre Jordan has declined to exercise his player option with the Los Angeles Clippers. By doing so, Jordan will now become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
It finally seems to be happening. The last member of the Lob City trio will be on his way out. With Dallas as the main reported suitor, don’t be surprised to see news of him agreeing to sign there in the next couple of days. Don’t expect the team to lock him in his house and convince him to stay this time.
Jordan opting out makes sense, but many thought he would be traded after rumors ramped up over the past couple of weeks. The Clippers traded for Marcin Gortat earlier this week in anticipation of Jordan’s departure. DeAndre is the longest tenured member of the Clippers and holds the record for most games played for the franchise, but his time with the team will now likely come to an end.
During his tenure with the Clippers, Jordan averaged 9.4 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. He led the league in field goal percentage multiple times and made the All-Star team during the 2016-17 season. He flourished under Doc Rivers and went from being a high energy bench center to one of the elite players at his position in the league.
If he does indeed depart during free agency, DeAndre will be missed by fans, but we are now ready to look to the future of the Los Angeles Clippers!
