With the Los Angeles Clippers selecting 12th and 13th in the 2018 NBA Draft, could they get their future backcourt in Troy Brown and Collin Sexton?

The Los Angeles Clippers have a multitude of ways they can handle having both the 12th and 13th picks in this year’s NBA Draft. Do they try and trade up? Do they move picks for another player? Who do they take if they stand put? Collin Sexton and Troy Brown might be the winning combination.

The Clippers have a plethora of guards that could be on the roster at the start of the season. Austin Rivers very well could opt in. The team could bring back Avery Bradley. Lou Williams just inked a new deal this past season. Patrick Beverley is cleared to play again. Sindarius Thornwell and Jawun Evans showed promise in their rookie campaigns. Milos Teodosic looks to be back for at least another season. So, why then would they take two more guards in the draft?

Because this team is planning for the future. Sexton and Brown both could be lead guards for a future Clippers team. Partner them with Thornwell and Evans off the bench and the team could have a solid, defensive minded rotation in place.

Sexton is a tenacious point guard, who may not be a great facilitator, is a relentless finisher and aggressive defender. He has drawn comparisons to Patrick Beverley by The Ringer (who, at the time of writing, have us taking both of these players). Brown has the size at 6’7″ to play both wing positions and although still a little raw on the offensive end, looks to be a great defender in the making. In today’s NBA, having guards who can, well, guard, is a commodity.

Brown has already worked out with the team and several mock drafts have Sexton ending up with the Clippers.

The team can fill other needs, such as the potential lack of a starting center, in free-agency. Taking two potential starting guards makes sense, especially when both already look to be NBA ready defenders. Their offense can come with time.
