Los Angeles Clippers 2018 NBA Draft Profile: Troy Brown Jr.
With the 2018 NBA Draft scheduled on June 21st, we will look closely at prospects for the Los Angeles. The first prospect is Troy Brown Jr. out of Oregon.
Brad Turner of the LA Times reported last night, that the Los Angeles Clippers were going to host former Oregon Duck Troy Brown Jr. for a Pre-Draft Workout.
Today, we will dive deeper and take a look at how Brown’s game can translate into the NBA.
Strengths
At 6’7 and 215 lbs, Troy Brown Jr. is the typical size you are looking for in a small forward. Brown’s game is very versatile as he mostly played point guard at Oregon and Centennial High School located in Nevada.
Having a Forward who can control the offense, facilitate and create shots for himself and others is key to being a starting-caliber forward in today’s game (ex. LeBron James, Ben Simmons, Giannis, KD, etc.).
He is a solid defender and rebounder, he also understands how to get the ball out quick and initiate easy scoring transition buckets. Keeping in mind he doesn’t turn 19 until late July, take a look at some of his highlights against UCLA.
Weaknesses
Brown averaged 11.3 points per game, 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game last year. Those are very solid numbers, however he did only shoot 29.1% from behind the arc. If he can develop his 3-point shot, it will only further expand his game.

He also did only shoot 74% from the line, but that is still okay considering his youthfulness and room to grow. Brown is a tremendous prospect with huge upside should he continue to develop.
How He Would Fit In With The Clippers
With the uncertainty of who will be the starting small forward of the LA Clippers going forward, Brown could possibly fill that void for now and the future. He would be best suited to play alongside shooters including Tobias, Lou and Danilo to name a few.
He can also play the 1 in a small ball lineup and match-up terrifically against opposing guards with his size. Just imagine a lineup of Brown, Lou Will, Danilo, Tobi and DJ. That will cause havoc for opposing defenses.
Overall
At 18 years old, Brown Jr. has major upside to become a solid rotation piece with the Clippers or any of the 31 Franchises in the Association.
He can do a little bit of everything and if he finds the right system, he may very well be a player we may talk about being a future All-Star some day.
