Los Angeles Clippers: Get to know new guard Avery Bradley
By Paul Tooke
Avery Bradley was one of the players recently acquired from the Pistons in the controversial Blake Griffin trade. Who is Avery Bradley and what does he bring to the Los Angeles?
Avery Bradley’s past
After being drafted 19th overall in 2010, Bradley spent seven seasons with the Boston Celtics and part of the 2017-2018 season with the Detroit Pistons. Before his NBA career, Bradley attended the University of Texas at Austin. He played just one season before declaring for the NBA draft. His 19th overall pick was earned not by his ability to score the ball, or his size, or even just his impressive defense, but by how mature and comfortable he was on the court. Essentially, Bradley is a great role player, which is what we can expect from him on the LA Clippers.
What will Bradley bring to the court?

It’s easy to sit back and say “Avery Bradley will bring better defense to this team” due to his reputation as a stopper, but let’s take a little deeper look at everything else Bradley has to offer. While he is already a great role player, this doesn’t mean that Bradley has any sort of ceiling on his ability. Bradley averaged 16 points in his last season with the Celtics and has managed to average 15 for the Pistons during the current season, proving he can score when called to. Bradley is a great spot up shooter and plays best off the ball. His off-ball ability will further help the Clippers keep the ball moving on offense and prevent any sort of stale action on the court.
Where does Bradley fit in on the roster?
The 27-year-old shooting guard is used to a starting role. Whether or not he gets the starting 2 position right away for the Clippers depends on Doc Rivers. The Clippers’ starting 5 has changed constantly all season long and will continue to do so with more trades possibly happening before the deadline.
