Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the LA Clippers will continue shopping DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams for younger players after the Blake Griffin deal.
The Basketball Gods are continuing their reign of terror on the Los Angeles Clippers.
Not an hour after Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Blake Griffin deal was finalized, he stated that the Clippers will continue shopping DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams in order to obtain younger players and picks.
From this, we can assume the LA Clippers are in full rebuild mode, especially considering the Griffin deal.
Jordan’s name has been linked to several trade rumors, most notably with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets. However, he’s also been linked to the Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Miami Heat.
Williams is coveted by nearly every team in Finals contention, and most notably by the Cavaliers. A high-scoring, explosive Sixth Man is the recipe for success in nearly every championship run. Although Williams has gone on record saying he hopes he stays with the team, the final decision isn’t his alone.
Both Jordan and Williams have tremendous trade value and could yield a high return for the Clippers. However, both are on expiring contracts.
Jordan’s deal is good through this season, with a player option worth $24 million on the next. Williams, on the other hand, will become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. The Clippers have reportedly been in talks with both regarding extensions, but have been unable to strike a deal thus far.
After the Griffin deal, nothing is off the table. The Clippers have massive amounts of cap space opened up now, and could afford to extend Jordan and Williams. However, the team seems more keen on dealing the pair and acquiring more young talent.
