Lou Williams Named Western Conference Player of the Week
By Blake Harris
After one of the best weeks of his career, LA Clippers guard Lou Williams was named Western Conference Player of the Week.
What a week for Lou Williams. Scratch that, what a season for Lou Williams.
On Tuesday, Williams was awarded Western Conference Player of the Week honors. This included games played from Dec. 25 through Dec. 31. During that stretch, the Clippers went 3-0. In those three games, Lou Will averaged 28 points a game, while shooting 50 percent from the field and 48 percent from three. He also distributed the ball, averaging nearly five assists a game.
Did I mention he did this all coming off the bench?
This is Williams’ second time ever winning the award. He last won Player of the Week back in November of 2014, when he was a member of the Toronto Raptors.
Last Tuesday, Williams dropped 21 points in a 122-95 victory over the Sacramento Kings. In 27 minutes of play, Lou knocked down seven shots on 11 attempts. He also connected on three 3’s.
In Friday’s matchup with the Lakers, Williams added 23, however it wasn’t a good shooting night for the guard. On 14 attempts, Lou only knocked down four of them. His points came from the line, where he was 13-15 on the evening.
New Year’s Eve is what ultimately won him the award.
For the second time this season, Lou Williams dropped 40 points (!!!) It’s remarkable that he’s done it twice in only two months, but it’s unbelievable that he’s done it while coming off the bench.
On Sunday, Lou Will dropped 40, going 12-21 from the field. He knocked down six three’s, and also had eight assists as well.
On the season, Williams is averaging 21 points a game, while shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc. For what it’s worth, he’s also adding five assists a game as well.
ALL WHILE COMING OFF THE BENCH!!!
It’s no question that Lou Williams is the runaway for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award. Currently 19th in the NBA in scoring, Williams is having one of the best seasons for a bench player that we’ve ever seen. What’s more impressive for Lou, is that he’s doing this in his 12th season. He’s 31 years old for crying out loud!
For the Clippers, it was a tough blow losing Jamal Crawford in the offseason, as he was the Clips best bench player over the last few years. Williams has stepped in, and filled that void, to say the least.
With the Clippers slowly getting healthier by the day, and Lou Will having a career season, this is a team that is coming together, and getting ready to make a strong playoff push.
Also, if you haven’t already, make sure you vote to send Lou Williams to the 2018 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles!
