Once again, LA Clippers star forward Blake Griffin has proven he’s one of the funniest players in the league.  This time using his talent in comedy for a great cause.

Thursday night Blake hosted a stand up comedy show in Hollywood.  The event was sponsored by Red Bull and raised funds for the Team Griffin Foundation.  The foundation helps young students pursue their dreams in academics, athletics, and arts.

Blake not only hosted and curated the evening’s talent, but also did some stand up of his own, including material about being a hoop star in a Lakers town.  Blake killed, having the crowd, including some of his teammates, in hysterics.  After doing his own well crafted jokes, Blake brought out the other comedians.

The night included sets from well-known and respected names in the comedy world in Jim Jefferies, Norm McDonald, Phoebe Robinson, Whitney Cummings, and John Mulaney.  All of whom agree that Blake is a natural at comedy and has excellent timing and perspective.

This wasn’t Blake’s first foray into comedy.  Last year in the offseason Griffin hosted a comedy show in Montreal during the Just For Laughs fest; a festival spotlighting the biggest names in comedy.  He also appeared as a guest on Comedy Central’s Broad City last March, showing more than just his acting abilities.  Of course, there’s all the Kia commercials we have all come to love, where Blake refuses to take himself seriously.

It’s nice to see the Clippers star using his off court talents to bring joy and laughter in the name of helping LA’s youth.  Seeing him move naturally and with ease was also a pleasant sight for Clippers fans as he is currently sidelined with a knee injury.  We all look forward to Blake’s return, but also what his talents in comedy have in store for the future.  Perhaps we’ll see some more Slam Dunk Poetry soon.
