After his basketball career, the LA Clippers’ Blake Griffin has a future in Hollywood.

Blake Griffin has officially graduated from commercials.  We’ve seen him with his own show on Adult Swim, BGCP3TV, staring him and Chris Paul.  He’s appeared on the hit comedy series Broad City, and is continuing to appear in The 5th Quarter after making two appearances last season.  We no longer see Blake during every commercial break of every game on TV.  He’s got his eyes on La La Land.

We’ve seen a few former ball players make the jump from setting screens to acting on them.  Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, and Rick Fox have all had some success in Hollywood.  MJ wasn’t any good and made a smash hit that’s still adored over 20 years later.  Rick Fox has made a legitimate second career with his acting.  He appeared in hit shows like Shameless and Oz, and also movies like Dope, Holes, and He Got Game.  So we know it’s doable, and we know Blake’s got the chops.

More from Clipperholics

To me, Blake is much more of a Shaq than a Fox.  Fox is a REAL actor, and has a wide range of abilities.  Shaq, on the other hand, is a giant goof.  Blake has real ability like Fox, but is a comedic mind like Shaq.  Think John Cena, but less forced (To be clear: I love Cena, but he couldn’t act so he became a comedic actor).

Potentially the biggest development in Blake’s career occurred in the past couple months.  Blake has found his foot caught in a Kardashian/Jenner trap but he could actually benefit from it.  We haven’t seen any NBAers benefit from one of these relationships yet (deepest apologies to Kris Humphries and Tristan Thompson), but I think Blake might be the one to slip through the cracks.  Make a couple appearances on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, have a few meet and greets you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise, and maybe, just maybe, he gets his big break.

I’m only going to make one suggestion as to what Blake should pursue.  Forget LeBron James, Blake Griffin should be the star of Space Jam 2.  I get that Bron is the best player on the planet and that he wasn’t bad in Trainwreck, but if you’re looking for the MOST talented current NBA star, then there’s no reason to look beyond the walls of Los Angeles.

I’ve been a fan of Blake since before his career in the NBA started, and his accomplishments off the court since then have only made me love him more.  I only hope that I can continue to enjoy him long after his playing days are behind him.
