Former UC Irvine Point Guard Luke Nelson will join the LA Clippers’ Summer League Roster. The British guard had pre-draft workouts with the Clippers, Lakers, and Magic.

Per David Pick, former UC Irvine point guard Luke Nelson will be joining the Clippers’ Summer League team after going undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft. The London-born guard averaged 16.9 points per game during his senior year at UC Irvine while shooting 45.7 percent from the floor and 43.2 percent from three.

Nelson will have to compete for minutes with Jawun Evans, Sindarius Thornwell, David Michineau, and any other guard that Los Angeles decides to give a spot on the NBA Summer League team. If Nelson manages to impress the Clipper’s staff with his NBA Summer League play, the rookie may be able to earn a spot on the Agua Caliente Clippers.

The team should have an official announcement of their summer league roster in the coming days. Several players are already expected to be a part of the team, but a few more may be added in the days leading up to the first game in Las Vegas.

With the announcement of the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario, the LA Clippers should treat summer league more seriously. If they can find a few guys that they believe in, the Clips can put them into the G-League and try and build upon their potential. The Clipper’s first Las Vegas Summer League game is July 7th at 8:30 against the Los Angeles Laker’s team and will be televised on ESPN.
