With the LA Clippers being eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday, Blake Griffin underwent surgery to fix his injured toe.

Blake Griffin underwent successful surgery on Monday, which should fix the toe he injured in Game 3 against the Utah Jazz. The surgery was repair an injury to the plantar plate of his right big toe. The injury caused Griffin to be ruled out for the remainder of the Playoffs, had the LA Clippers advanced.

According to the LA Times, the team is hopeful Griffin should be ready for the start of the 2017-18 season.

"The Clippers said that there was no official timetable for his return from the procedure done by ankle specialist Robert Anderson, but that it was “reasonable to expect” Griffin on the court sometime during the exhibition season."

This is the second surgery of the NBA season that Griffin needed. In late December, he had arthroscopic surgery on his knee as a preventive measure. The team and Blake Griffin hoped that by missing the 18 games early in the season, he would be ready to go for an injury free playoff run. There’s some irony there.

Blake Griffin will most likely be a free agent this summer as he is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract. The Clippers supposedly remain committed to keeping Griffin and can offer him the most money, but as we’ve witnessed over the past few summers, nothing is guaranteed in free agency.
