In a game against the Rockets that featured multiple personal milestones, the LA Clippers reached a team feat, setting the franchise record in 3-pointers made in one season.
With 1:51 left to go in the third quarter, Mo Speights knocked down a three, giving the LA Clippers a 92-64 lead. In a game that was presumably over, it had little meaning or effect on anyone watching. However, that three was far more valuable. That 3-pointer made was number 828 on the season, setting the franchise high for most 3-pointers made in a season.
The Clippers currently sit at 831, with one game remaining in the regular season. The previous record (827) was held by the 2014-2015 team. Ironically, the four seasons Doc Rivers has been here, are the four highest 3-point attempt seasons.

With shooters like Redick, Crawford, Speights, and CP3, this is no surprise that the team set the record. What is surprising though, is the amount of 3’s we’ve seen from Austin, Blake, & Mbah a Moute. Each one of them set career highs in three-pointers for a season.

The NBA has been trending towards the three ball for years. The Clips are not the only team to break their franchise record. Across the league, teams are shooting at a historic rate. For the past couple of seasons, the NBA record for three pointers has been broken. It will be interesting to see how long this trend continues and how the league adjusts. LA should add a few more to their record during their season finale against the Sacramento Kings.
