After the season series ended on Saturday, several angry Lakers’ fans took to Twitter. As a Clippers’ fan, I’m responding.

Dear Lakers’ fans,

As the season winds down, I want to extend an olive branch. We may have won 3 of the games this season with relative ease, but hey! You beat us on Christmas. That’s great! You have a new young coach who everyone thinks is the real deal. You have Magic Johnson involved now. Things are looking up.

Yes, you are heading to the lottery again. I hope you keep your pick. I really do. You need SOMETHING to jump start your franchise. Losing a player like Kobe isn’t easy and I know this has been a tough transition for you. But, as you prepare for next season and we gear up for a (hopefully meaningful) playoff run, let’s square some stuff away:

I can’t dispute this. Although we’ve been a franchise for nowhere near as long, we haven’t been very successful. Bad decision after bad decision and some awful management did us no favors. (Shout-out to The Curse by Mick Minas) You guys have championships and we don’t. Hopefully we can join you in hanging a banner. If the Chicago Cubs can break their curse, why can’t we? But for now, enjoy those past wins. You earned them.

Neither one of us own Staples! If any “team” does, it’s the LA Kings. So I guess we both owe them some money? It’s okay though. We may be on to bigger and better things in a few years anyway!

Now, this one is tricky. If you are talking currently, then you must be out of your mind. Obviously, two All-Star caliber players are better than an amateur videographer and his string bean built buddy. However, if we are talking the future, then you might have a case. The Lakers have youth and the Clippers do not. (We’re the oldest team in the league, actually.) These two might not be future stars, but they’re solid building blocks moving forward.

So Lakers fans, I hope you can pull for us in the Playoffs. We’re pulling for you in the lottery. Let’s make this rivalry exciting again. Maybe next year you’ll have a young star player or Magic will surprise us in free agency with a big signing.

But for now, root for your Clippers’ brethren. If someone else is going to bring a championship home, why not pull for at least someone in your same city?

If not, I’m not sure what to say. MLB just started so watch your Yankees’ games or wait until Fall rolls around again. Dak Prescott did look pretty solid…

Sincerely,

A Clippers’ fan
