It’s been a while, but it’s time for some WNBA chatter as the playoffs are growing close and who better to speak on than the most talented player in the league!
Candace Parker is the best player in the WNBA.
FanSided
Maya Moore is close and has accomplishments that Parker doesn’t have. No player may have more of an impact on a game than the towering Britney Griner thanks to her ability to control the paint as no one can. Elena Della Donne is up there too. But when it comes to outright talent, it’s Parker vs. the field, as she’s shown in her first three games back after sitting out the first half of the season for rest, Parker is the right pick for the title.
So to celebrate stellar play as she’s helped the Los Angeles Sparks to a 2-1 in her three games back (the lone loss came in a close contest against the league-best Minnesota Lynx) averaging 20 points on 53% shooting, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and 1.3 steals along the way, here are some GIFs highlighting Parker’s — who I like to sometimes refer to as the ‘LeBron James of the WNBA’ — best plays so far.
The StepBack
Sometimes it’s just too easy — the Sky would have a hard job holding Parker for the entire night.
The StepThrough
Lacking the hyper-athleticism that makes some male athletes noteworthy, female basketball players are often lauded for their high use of fundamentals. Parker shows that here with a step-through for an easy layup as her defender leaves her feet.
The Pump Fake & Dagger
To cap off a season-best 31 point night, Parker school’s the defender — not once but twice — to hit what could be described as the dagger as the Sparks defeat the Chicago Sky 88-77.
Over Maya
In her first game back, fans got to witness the two best players in the WNBA got at it in Parker and Moore; on this particular play (with ease), CP3 got the best of Maya.
Candace Parker in the post DAWGGG
Quoting French Montana’s hilariousness from Rick Ross’ “Stay Scheming” to describe Parker’s offense here, the two-time league MVP gets busy on the low-block against the Minnesota Lynx.
A Nifty Dime
The best of nine assists in her first game back against Minnesota.
Candace Parker in the Post Pt. 2
Though we’re familiar with the Kobe Bryant’s and LeBron James’ of basketball routinely hitting fadeaways on the block, these aren’t easy shots and CP3 makes it look … well, easy.
Clutch Candace
With one second left on the shot clock and less than a minute left in the game, Parker drains the go-ahead jumper to give her Sparks 80 points, the final team total as they defeat the San Antonio Sparks 80-78.
Hopefully Parker’s presence is enough to help the 5-14 Sparks make the 2015 WNBA playoffs.
