Per Xavier University’s social media and USA Today, Musketeer Alum Zach Freemantle has signed an Exhibit-Ten contract with the LA Clippers. Freemantle played five years for the Musketeers, spent six years in college, and frequently battled injuries. He's coming into his rookie season at 24 years old.

Despite this, Freemantle does a lot of things well. He was named to the Big East All-Freshman team in 2020 and won the conference’s Most Improved Player award in 2021. He’s also added two All-Big East second team selections in 2021 and 2025 and hoisted the NIT championship trophy in 2022.

The NBA transition of Zach Freemantle has a significant question mark regarding his ability to make Tyronn Lue's rotation

In terms of his play, Zach Fremantle tends to play slowly, unorthodoxly, and clumsily at times. Throughout his collegiate career, there have been moments when he does not look like a basketball player, and as a result, he frustrates fans.  He needs to work on dribbling less and shooting quicker, but that should improve as he gains more professional experience.

Freemantle only appeared in three games for the Orlando Magic during Summer League, where he averaged 6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 0.7 spg on 37.5% shooting. Additionally, he shot 50% from three, but only took four shots beyond the arc.

The Bergen, NJ native’s ceiling could be that of Nicolas Batum’s tenure with the LA Clippers. He’s never going to fill the stat sheet, but he will always be the willing screen-setter, roller, pop on occasion, with an occasional spot-up three type player.

On the other hand, he could be a mix of former Clippers Moussa Diabate and Ivica Zubac. Strange mix, but a smaller 6’9 frame, with good strength and ability to hold positioning, sums Freemantle up pretty good. If he breaks bad habits for Centers like bringing the ball down and dribbling too much, there is a world where the Clippers would be comfortable sporadically playing Freemantle .

He definitely needs to get quicker horzonitally and break some bad habits, but Freemantle has an NBA body and can hold his own against larger opponents. The clear downside, which the Clippers have avoided in virtually every move they’ve made in the Lawrence Frank era, is the injuries. Freemantle suffered a major foot injury after his true-senior season in college, which required surgery and resulted in him missing the entire next season.

As a biased Xavier grad, Freemantle would be a nice pickup for this Clippers team. Being realistic, there is a very slim chance he makes the NBA roster, with the G-League being his most likely landing spot. He does the little things on the court, which could go a long way for any NBA team that is trying to be competitive.
