Retired Clippers player gives honest opinion on Westbrook moving to bench
By Will Eudy
Russell Westbrook shocked LA Clippers fans and everyone across the NBA landscape Friday morning when it was announced that he had requested to come off the bench going forward.
Clearly, something needed to change for the Clippers to get back to their winning ways. Having lost six in a row, an adjustment was needed. But it was not clear who if anyone would be willing to take the plunge and assume a different role for the good of the team.
The announcement that Westbrook not only agreed to come off the bench, but had requested to do so is an encouraging sign. Even if the move fails, it is a noble effort by the former MVP. After the news of Westbrook's decision came out, one former Clippers player gave his thoughts on the matter: Jamal Crawford.
Jamal Crawford gave his honest thoughts on Westbrook's move
Many Clipper fans remember Jamal Crawford's time with in LA from 2012 to 2017. In his social media post, Crawford approved of Russell Westbrook's decision, with one small caveat. He stated that he believed it should have been James Harden who came off the bench. Even so, he still believes it is honorable of Westbrook to step up and sacrifice for his team.
Crawford's opinion that Harden should be taking the bench role is one that has been frequently circulated in recent days. The Clippers may be able to find more success with one less ball-dominant player in the starting lineup.
One thing is for sure: Jamal Crawford is someone who knows a thing or two about how to find success in scoring the ball. Fans will know in due time whether he is correct or not.
