Over the course of the last 15 years, the LA Clippers have gone from a franchise without much winning history to one of the most consistently successful teams in the NBA. The "Lob City" era transitioned to the "213" era in the late 2010s, and one of the players that served to bridge the gap between these two defining eras in Clippers history was Patrick Beverley.
Arriving in Los Angeles via the trade that sent Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets, Pat Bev instantly became a culture-changer for the Clippers. He has never been an All-Star caliber player, but his infectious energy and leadership were crucial in establishing the teams' identity in the formative years of the Kawhi Leonard-Paul George era.
Of course, when Beverley announced his intention to leave the NBA and continue his professional career overseas in Israel in 2024-25, it felt like the end of an era for quite a few Clippers fans. Still, many have been excited to follow along with him from a distance. We have already seen a video from practice where Pat looked like a totally different player while matched up with less-talented players than he has been used to.
Beverley scored three points in his first international friendly
But unfortunately, it appears those skillful performances from practice have not translated over to the actual gameplay, at least not yet. Pat Bev took part in his first official game with Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv this week, scoring three points and logging six assists in 15 minutes of play.
This game was a friendly, of which Pat's team had already completed two before he was ready to step on the floor. All three of Beverley's points came from the free throw line, and there was not much to write home about from him at either end of the court.
However, his team still won easily, 92-75 against Elitzur BRIGA Netanya, and Beverley is still assuredly just getting acclimated. Rest assured once the friendly matches are over and he has some more reps under his belt, Pat Bev will once again look like the player Clippers fans grew to love over the years.
