For the last several weeks, the LA Clippers have been focused on replenishing their roster after their star power took a major hit with Paul George's departure to Philadelphia. Thankfully, the front office has worked diligently and has been able to put several talented pieces in place, giving the team what seems to be a deeper roster than before.

But there is at least one moving part still in play on the Clippers' roster, and that is Russell Westbrook. After a less than impressive season in Los Angeles largely due to James Harden's arrival, the Clippers and Russ appeared to be headed for a split. Now, one of the top NBA insiders has officially confirmed the rumors.

In his latest newsletter, Shams Charania reveals that the Clippers are officially planning to part ways with Westbrook this offseason (subscription required). According to the insider, LA's management is continuing to discuss trades for Russ. Additionally, the Denver Nuggets are the front-runner to land Westbrook if he becomes a free agent.

The Nuggets are the front-runners to sign Westbrook

This news confirms what many already suspected about Russ. It seemed highly unlikely the team would want to keep him around for next season. Given his play this past season and the plentiful amount of ball-handling guards already on the Clippers' roster, him moving on already seemed extremely likely.

It is less than surprising that the front office is actively looking to trade him, and we have already heard rumblings that the Nuggets have interest in acquiring Westbrook. Pairing the 2017 MVP with Nikola Jokic would likely be one of the best ways to utilize Russ' talent in this late stage of his career.

Shams' information can give Clippers fans even more confidence that Westbrook will not be on their team next season. Negotiations are clearly still being figured out, but ideally, LA will still be able to get something in return for the veteran point guard.
