Former Clipper calls out Paul George for "B-Team" comment
By Will Eudy
It is safe to say that LA Clippers fans were less than thrilled when Paul George recently made a disappointing, but also on-brand, comment about his time with the team. The fact of the matter is that George, being a podcast host, is naturally going to be more likely to put hot takes and sound bites out on the Internet, but that does not mean that Clippers fans are always going to like them.
That statement certainly applies to the latest clip that has gone viral from Podcast P with Paul George. Appearing on his latest episode, the former Clippers wing stated that being in Philadelphia differs from being in Los Angeles because in LA it felt like he was playing "on the B-Team."
Of course, that is not necessarily incorrect, because even Clippers fans are self-aware enough to recognize the brand power of the Lakers. But it is still not something that many are happy about him speaking out loud, especially in a way that seems to diminish the brand of the Clippers.
Ron Harper called out Paul George
One former Clipper in particular, Ron Harper, was less than pleased with George's comment. Replying to a post promoting PG's "B-Team" comment, Harper said, "Stop it!!!! Play harder then."
For fans who may be too young to remember, Harper played with the Clippers from 1989 until 1994. What makes him even more relevant in this particular discussion is the fact that Ron also played a two-year stint with the Lakers after leaving the Clippers from 1999 until 2001. Having played multiple seasons for both teams, it feels like Harper has more ground to stand on than most when it comes to this topic.
There are certainly some Clippers fans that will take Ron's side in this conversation. After all, George is coming off a very disappointing playoff series against the Mavericks where he shot below 35% in half the series' games and put up just seven points in a crucial Game 3.
Much of Clipper nation will continue to take the stance that Paul George has little to no ground to stand on if he wants to take shots at the Clippers. Once again, moments like this will only add to the drama that will certainly ensue when the 76ers take on the Clippers in the upcoming season.
