The LA Clippers' history did not begin with them being a perennial basketball powerhouse, but things have certainly been trending in the right direction in recent years. After struggling to build consistency as an on-court winner since moving to Los Angeles in the 1980s, the Clippers really hit a stride in the 2010s when Blake Griffin and Chris Paul arrived in town.
Along with DeAndre Jordan, those three created a formidable core for the Clippers to build around, and transformed them into a consistent Western Conference playoff contender. Since then, LA has continued their winning ways by attracting Paul George and Kawhi Leonard in the 2019 offseason, the latter of which remains the franchise's cornerstone.
Throughout the Clippers' new era of prosperity and even back into the old days, they had significant stretches of success that included some long winning streaks. Here, we will look at the eight longest winning streaks in Clippers history.
17-win streak: November 28, 2012 - January 1, 2013
The longest winning streak in the history of Clippers basketball by far came during the 2012-13 season. This was the first full season that Chris Paul was on board in Los Angeles, and it led to what was then a franchise-record 56 wins in the regular season.
LA's win streak began in their last game of November against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which was followed by an undefeated month of December. They would vault themselves to the top of the Western Conference standings, going from an 8-6 record at the start of the streak to a 25-6 record by the end.
11-win streak: February 23, 2014 - March 17, 2014
Another winning streak from the "Lob City" era, this one came following the All-Star break during the 2013-14 season. LA defeated the Kevin Durant-Russell Westbrook Oklahoma City Thunder to begin their streak, eventually falling to the Denver Nuggets on the road to end the streak. This win streak included a legendary 48-point beatdown of the Lakers at Staples Center.
11-win streak: November 3, 1974 - November 24, 1974
The first of the Clippers' two 11-game win streaks in franchise history, this one came way back when the team was located in New York state and known as the Buffalo Braves. Close to the beginning of the season, the Braves defeated the Lakers to begin their streak. This season would see the Braves take home 49 victories, their most during the Buffalo era.
10-win streak: December 25, 2015 - January 16, 2016
Yet another streak that began against the Lakers, the Clippers won a marquee Christmas Day matchup in 2015, in what would be Kobe Bryant's final appearance on the holiday. They won five games in a row on the road, on the way to a fourth-straight top-four finish in the Western Conference standings.
9-win streak: December 2, 2023 - December 21, 2023
Probably every Clippers fan remembers this much-needed win streak from this past season. After the Clippers began the 2023-24 year 8-10, Paul George hit a game-winner against the Golden State Warriors to break their streak of nine losses in the last 14 games. The breakthrough win started off a nine-game winning streak that saw the Clippers become one of the best teams in basketball for much of the winter.
9-win streak: November 24, 2014 - December 12, 2014
The 2014-15 season will always represent a missed opportunity for the Clippers. The team won nine in a row in November and December against playoff squads like the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans, and took home 56 regular season wins. But they gave away a 3-1 lead in their playoff semifinal matchup against Houston that still haunts the organization to this day.
8-win streak: November 30, 1991 - December 17, 1991
In their eighth season since moving to Los Angeles, the Clippers racked up an impressive eight wins in a row on their way to securing a trip to the playoffs for the first time since the Buffalo Braves days. The win streak was sparked by a victory over the Charlotte Hornets, and concluded with a loss on the road to the Seattle Supersonics.
8-win streak: February 15, 1979 - March 3, 1979
During the 1978-79 season, the Clippers had just moved to San Diego from Buffalo. Fans that were around to watch back then remember that the team struggled mightily during their time in San Diego, but this was actually the only season they secured a winning record in the city. The Clippers' win streak of eight games was part of a larger stretch of 13 wins in 14 games that put them eight games over .500 overall.
