5 Potential Clippers free agent targets with ties to Kawhi Leonard
By Will Eudy
4. Patty Mills
Something the Clippers clearly needed more of this past season was three-point shooting. As a team, they actually finished fifth in the association for overall three-point percentage, but they simply did not get enough attempts up. LA made just 12.6 threes per game last season, good for 16th in the league. So clearly, while the Clippers can shoot very well from three, they simply do not get as many attempts up per night as they could.
Improve this number, and they could come closer to looking like the Celtics team that just took home a championship. One way to do that is by bringing in smart players that can shoot well and understand their role in the offense without trying to do too much. If it sounds like I just perfectly described Patty Mills, it is because that is precisely the type of player he is.
Many will overlook Patty and his contributions during this year's free agency period because of his lack of significant impact for the Hawks and Heat this past season. But although he is getting up there in age at 35 years old, shooting ability is always the last skill to go. Mills has won a championship before, and he knows what it takes to perform on the highest stage. The Clippers may want to pursue him if he is going to be a freebie on the free agent market.
