With the most exciting part of the NBA free agency period behind us, the LA Clippers' roster appears to be nearly set for next season. There were rumors of the team having interest in bringing in another high-level scoring option, but recent reports appear to have squashed those talks.
Now, the Clippers will head into the fall with a revamped roster that features much improved depth following the departure of Paul George. If the front office were to still add an additional player to fill out the remainder of their bench, they would likely be pursuing another forward or wing.
Fortunately, several good options in that category remain on the free agent market. These are four free agent forwards the Clippers could still get at a potentially discounted price.
1. Precious Achiuwa
Known for having an extremely solid motor, Precious Achiuwa is a do-it-all interior option that most recently played for the Knicks this past season. After New York failed to extend him a qualifying offer, Achiuwa becomes one of the most desirable wings left on the market.
At this point in the game, Achiuwa feels like one of the top free agents still out there period. If the Clippers can someone snag him on a one-year deal, it may be the perfect final move for this roster.
2. Davis Bertans
The sharp-shooting Davis Bertans is an interesting player. Standing at 6-foot-10, he has the height of a power forward, but he rarely if ever plays on the interior. Bertans is one of the best pure shooters in the NBA. If you give him an inch of daylight, he will be letting the ball fly and will usually be knocking down his shots at a high rate.
Bertans' drawbacks come on the defensive end where he can be a liability. But if the Clippers wanted to add pure shooting power for use in lineups where floor spacing is a priority, Davis could be a reasonable option on a minimum deal.
3. Troy Brown Jr.
A young player who has been a journeyman in the early part of his career, Troy Brown Jr. is still looking for a permanent home in the NBA. Standing 6-foot-6, Brown is a standard wing prototype who has shown flashes of being a reliable rotation player throughout his career.
I believe Troy is best utilized when his usage is lower and is allowed to play off ball more. With that in mind, the Clippers could be an excellent opportunity for him with high-level playmakers like James Harden able to feed him the ball and get him good looks.
4. Harry Giles
The last player on our list would be something of a reclamation project. Harry Giles entered the league in 2018 after being the top recruit in his high school class. Injuries changed the course of his career, but that sky-high potential still remains, just buried beneath the surface.
No, it is not likely Giles ever truly amounts to what scouts saw him as back in high school, but there is something to be said for players who continue pressing on after potentially debilitating injuries that re-shaped their career. I still see Giles as an upgrade over the players the Clippers had at the end of their bench this past season.
