The MVP conversation is a debate, but what is not is a spot on the league’s All-NBA team, where Kawhi Leonard belongs. However, as he was just ruled out against the Minnesota Timberwolves (left-ankle soreness), his 14th absence of the season, Leonard only has a cushion of three more before he is eliminated from regular-season recognition. This is the direct effect of the 65-game rule that was implemented in 2023.

Given that Leonard is averaging 28.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.0 steals, his spot is a near guarantee. But, he needs to meet the requirements, and with a lot of basketball still left, Clipper Nation needs their superstar to hold up to be showered with the flowers he deserves.

For what it is worth, household names like LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Stephen Curry have already been disqualified, making an All-NBA snub that much less likely for Leonard, as long as he shows up for a majority of the rest of the way.

The remainder of the season will speak volumes on Kawhi Leonard's health

With Kawhi Leonard sitting out against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he would have had about a week’s worth of rest; that is like a mini All-Star break, which is plenty of time for him to get his ankles in check and ready for the brutal days ahead.

Furthermore, if Leonard is determined to obtain the honor he has worked tirelessly for, his body will have to withstand 18 games in March. This also includes four back-to-back sequences.

To say the least, what is in store for the Clippers will really put Leonard to the test. It is tough for him, in particular, given his lengthy injury history, yet, through a pessimistic lens, it could be seen as a good thing, as the fans and coaching staff will get a clear evaluation of whether he is ready for the playoffs.

Additionally, LA's remaining schedule is one of the easiest in the NBA, easing the pressure on Leonard. He just has to lace his kicks up and put out his best effort to blowout opponents so he can take a seat early, at the end of contests.

That said, Leonard has the potential to finish as eligible for awards; he is just cutting it extremely close. The last thing fans want to see is him miss out on being selected as one of the league's top stars this season.
