For years, the LA Clippers haven’t had someone end the regular season as the league leader in three-point shooting percentage. Who was the last to do it? Luke Kennard, in 2021-22, when he played 70 games, which is an extremely impressive feat that displays availability and consistent excellence from beyond the arc. Though that’s not terribly long ago, compared to some other teams across the association, Rui Hachimura, the Clippers’ most significant signing this summer, could easily be the next to do it.
This is not only because Hachimura has the tools to claim the title, as he was extremely efficient from three the last three seasons, and shot 56.9% in the 2025-26 playoffs on 5.8 attempts for the Los Angeles Lakers, but he’s on a team loaded with playmakers who will specifically be looking for him.
In addition, Hachimura will have a number of plays run for him by Tyronn Lue, which adds to his potential to do what Kennard once did.
Rui Hachimura is in a perfect position to lead the NBA in three-point percentage
Although the LA Clippers have many flaws on both sides of the ball, like many teams around the league, one area they don’t lack in is passing. If you scroll through the roster, guys like Darius Garland, Keaton Wagler, Kris Dunn, and Brandon Ingram are all above-average to elite playmakers.
For context, they each averaged more than 3.5 assists per game last season, with the exception of Wagler, who is a rookie but one who thrives in passing.
As a result, every player in the Clippers’ system would benefit heavily, as they would never have to worry about not being found offensively.
Now, for a player like Rui Hachimura, being in LA is even more beneficial, considering how elite of a three-point shooter he is.
Hachimura is very easily one of, if not the best in the league, in draining baskets from long distances at the power forward position. The percentages agree, and his fluid shot mechanics do as well.
That’s literally a match made in heaven for both sides, which is amongst the many reasons he had to have signed with the Clippers over other interested suitors.
So, all in all, Hachimura has the chance to do something extremely special next season. It’s been a while since the Clippers have had a three-point percentage leader, and doing so would quickly make the 29-year-old a fan favorite worldwide.
