After being traded in the middle of his third season, the LA Clippers were unsure how the future would pan out for the rising star, Ivica Zubac. He had great size and talent, but Zubac was far too young to predict what the rest of his career would look like.

Years passed, and the Clippers quickly noticed improvements in Zubac’s game. He perfected his footwork, defensive versatility, and strength, making him an untouchable piece for head coach Tyronn Lue. It is no wonder he is the longest-tenured player on the current roster.

Furthermore, in previous years, Zubac’s numbers have fluctuated in the same ballpark. He would consistently average close to a double-double, but nothing seemed out of the blue.

Conversely, this season, Zubac has arguably been the Clippers’ most valuable player. Through 41 games, the Croatian star has posted 15.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks, shooting 61.5% from the field.

Moreover, Zubac took on the two-way assignment of superstar Anthony Davis in the Battle of LA. He efficiently won his matchup, as he recorded 21 points and 19 rebounds while forcing Davis into a 5-14 shooting night with three turnovers.

Following the Clippers’ 14-point win, Davis and franchise centerpiece Kawhi Leonard spoke on Zubac’s development as a nine-year veteran.

Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard spoke highly of the LA Clippers’ star center, Ivica Zubac.

After carrying the LA Clippers for 35 minutes, Ivica Zubac received significant praise from some of the greatest defenders ever to play the game.

Kawhi Leonard, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, stated, “He’s patient now in the post, he’s able to make quick moves, he’s scoring over double teams at times and making the right read. He’s also been very aggressive attacking on the defensive end and getting blocks and rebounds, and he keeps growing.”

Anthony Davis, an NBA superstar and cross-town competitor, was asked about the growth of Zubac and responded. “He’s worked on his post-game. That jump hook. He’s always been a good screener. Good roller. Lob threat. Offensive rebounder. Good rim protector. He’s developed his post-game, where they’re throwing it to him, and he’s finishing with his right hook. He’s added that to his arsenal.”

That said, Zubac’s performance against the Lakers was not overlooked, as students of the game immediately noted how far he has come since entering the league.

Now in his ninth year, seventh with the Clippers, Zubac continues to fight for a spot on the 2025 all-star roster.
