After a couple of long weeks, LeBron James finally put pen to paper on a contract, and the lucky winner was the Philadelphia 76ers. Several teams were in the race, but because Philadelphia has an excellent core led by one of the most dominant superstars in the league when healthy, Joel Embiid, James chose the 76ers for the next. Well, what does this mean for the LA Clippers?
Directly, James’ signing with the Philadelphia 76ers impacts the entire Eastern Conference. But because the Clippers need the Toronto Raptors (draft capital from the trade of Kawhi Leonard) and Indiana Pacers (2029 unprotected first-round pick acquired from the Ivica Zubac trade) to underperform the next two seasons, LA is affected, in arguably the best way possible.
So, at the end of the day, the Clippers should be thanking James for his decision to sign with the 76ers. He chose the perfect team to go to, which could lead to a fortunate outcome for LA if all pans out as hoped for.
LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers will terrorize the East the next two seasons
In the grand scheme of things, following the signing of LeBron James, the Philadelphia 76ers are too dominant for anyone to stop them while he’s on the books. Even the reigning champions, the New York Knicks, seem to have the odds stacked against them.
At 41 years old, James was an All-Star, averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds, while shooting 51.5% from the field. And, if you pair this with Joel Embiid, a former MVP, Jaylen Brown, who just had an MVP-caliber season with the fourth-highest scoring average in the league, and Tyrese Maxey, who just had the fifth-highest scoring average, you get a team that’s borderline unstoppable.
Oh wait! Don’t forget about VJ Edgecomb, Anfernee Simons, Dean Wade, and one of the most electric rookies that absolutely dominated the summer league offensively, LaBaron Philon, who will each play a key role in the 76ers’ success next season, and thereafter.
That said, James making the Eastern Conference stronger is excellent news for the LA Clippers and their future.
The front office has made it a point to try to acquire quality draft capital since the trade deadline, and with the 76ers being exceptionally talented, the picks they have in stock could end up being ones that make a young core that’s already good, even better.
