In the race to see which team could get to the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the LA Clippers liked to believe they were first. This confidence stems purely from what they can offer Antetokounmpo, but Jake Fischer of ‘The Stein Line’ shattered the Clippers’ internal beliefs and shared the actual team in first place if the two-time MVP is ready to roll out of Milwaukee.
In Fischer’s latest report, the Clippers were unfortunately not even mentioned once for Antetokounmpo. In fact, the New York Knicks were the only team.
Thus, the Knicks may have overlapped the Clippers in less than a week of the release of trade rumors. LA ultimately wishes they had all the leverage New York has with the Bucks, as Antetokounmpo having only one preferred destination is an unfair reality for the 14th seed with 18 losses.
The Clippers should not lose all hope for Giannis Antetokounmpo
Although Giannis Antetokounmpo has a great relationship with the Milwaukee Bucks and their fan base, implying a great deal of respect all around, nothing about his being dealt to the New York Knicks is said and done. The superstar is still discussing a trade request, and even if he wants to go to New York, it does not mean he will.
The Knicks’ focus for the last few seasons has been on Jalen Brunson. He would make an exciting duo in the infamous Madison Square Garden with Antetokounmpo, but then the question reverts to what would be next for Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, and OG Anunoby?
Moreover, the shoes in the Bucks’ front office would be much lighter to walk in if Antetokounmpo came to them with three desired homes instead of just one. This is where Los Angeles plays its part, as Milwaukee’s icon clearly has a soft spot for city life.
In fact, from their modern arena to the unique food to the consistent weather they play in, everything about the Clippers is suited for Antetokounmpo. He clearly prioritizes the entire nine yards, which justifies the match being perfect.
Atlanta and Miami seem ideal for Antetokounmpo as well, but LA’s market is greater, and the Clippers’ finances are squeaky clean for the one-time champion to fill himself into the amount he requests.
Therefore, Jake Fischer’s report may be a painful read, yet to the Clippers, it should only mean they need to be more persistent in pursuing the highly coveted face of the NBA.
