Brooklyn Nets wing Terance Mann, who spent a large chunk of his career with the LA Clippers, recently spoke with Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, speaking about how thrilled he was when he got traded from LA. He was excited to earn a new opportunity with the Atlanta Hawks:
“I was super excited to be traded the first time, I kind of felt like my time in LA was up and it was time for me to get out of there,” Mann told Washburn. “I did six seasons there as a second-round pick and a lot of guys don’t get to do that so, I really felt excited to get traded to the East Coast and to an organization like Atlanta. The coaching staff was great and we had a good time.”
But now, he’s even more excited to be on the Brooklyn Nets.
What is in store for Terance Mann?
Mann was a solid rotation player for the Clippers throughout his tenure with the club. As a second-round pick, he slowly worked his way into Ty Lue’s rotation, highlighted by an impressive showing during their run to the Western Conference finals in 2021.
Though he eventually faded out of their lineup, his abilities as a 3-and-D wing are notable. He didn’t play a ton of minutes in Atlanta last season, but when he was on the court, he was decent.
Now, at 28 years old, Mann sees his new home in Brooklyn as a perfect opportunity to showcase what he can do:
“It didn’t come as a surprise to me,” he said. “It’s going to be crazy to play in an environment like that, something new. I’m one of the oldest guys on the team, want to be a leader, show those guys what it takes to win. I’ve been with those guys a ton [this summer] and they’re super hungry, willing to learn basketball. It’s going to be fun. I’m excited for the challenge and I feel like I was built for this. I’m in my prime right now and ready to show the world what I’ve really got outside this role I’ve been playing for the last six seasons.”
Mann was shipped to the Nets as part of the three-team deal that also included the Boston Celtics. Kristaps Porzingis went to Atlanta, Georges Niang went to Boston, and Mann went to Brooklyn.
Under head coach Jordi Fernandez, the Nets are in the midst of a rebuild, which Mann will now get to be a part of. If there were ever a place for him to shine as a veteran and a leader, it’s now. And it’s in Brooklyn.
