With James Harden making his way to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a destination he saw potential in, the trade details have been revealed. All the Cavaliers received was the former MVP, and the LA Clippers, on the other hand, were given Darius Garland and a second-round pick; this deal is the epitome of a pure fleece.

You would think that when negotiating on a 36-year-old aging superstar, the Clippers would have had to give draft capital, and then some, for a team to take on Harden, then give back a young, two-time All-Star.

Well, the Clippers pulled off an excellent trade and received one of the Cavaliers’ own second-round picks. This draft capital is crucial, as it is added to a stock that had few in line.

Thus, once Harden inevitably begins to decline, as all older veteran superstars do, the Cavaliers will regret giving LA a 26-year-old phenom and a pick on top.

The LA Clippers landed Darius Garland without digging into their future

The Cleveland Cavaliers could have easily asked the LA Clippers for Kobe Sanders or Jordan Miller, who are two-way deals, or for Yanic Konan Niederhauser, a promising young rookie, in exchange for Darius Garland. It would only be right, as James Harden is growing older by the day and is on a hefty contract.

Furthermore, no one knows the strategy Lawrence Frank used to convince Cleveland, but LA’s youthful assets remained put, and the rest of the squad is still there, where they belong. Meanwhile, Garland has officially become a Clipper.

It does not get any better than a trade like the one just executed, and Frank should be patting himself on the back for managing to pull off such a heist over the Cavaliers. He also deserves flowers from fans worldwide, as the extension he received quickly proved to be worth every penny.

Now, the Clippers can claim Garland into their future with a core that has been flourishing all season, and make the most of their cap space in this offseason and the next. Everything was made extremely simple due to a mistake the Cavaliers walked right into.

That said, the Clippers got a few exceptional years from Harden, during which he broke records and led countless regular-season campaigns, then leveraged his value to be regarded as the clear winners of a trade with the Cavaliers.

Everything evidently worked out, and the Clippers will continue to celebrate this success, especially when Garland starts to prosper in red, white, and blue.
