In terms of former and current players on the LA Clippers entering the NBA’s Hall-of-Fame, there is a very small list of names that must meet specific and meticulous criteria to be inducted. The player must have the achievements, accolades, and/or postseason honors to be considered when the league announces its picks each April.
Furthermore, there are names in each era of Clippers basketball that have a case, but one of the more prominent legends who became eligible in the 2027 class is Blake Griffin. He is regarded as the reason many fans fell in love with the sport, and others consider him the greatest player in team history.
Both are valid points, as Griffin tallied six All-Star selections and five All-NBA teams in his career while showing he had no fear in dunking the ball, even if there was a defender or group inside the paint that was bigger than him.
Even after Griffin was traded to the Detroit Pistons, Clipper Nation still showed him love with standing ovations and emotional, social media posts for the long-lasting memories he was a part of in LA. There will never be a player like him, both on and off the court, which is why he is embraced at every chance.
However, another former Clipper, Patrick Beverley, spoke about Griffin as a potential Hall-of-Famer on his podcast, and what was said could be compared to a dunk attempt that was air-balled.
Patrick Beverley makes a crazy hot take on Blake Griffin’s Hall-of-Fame status that is irrational in every way
Amid the latest episode of Patrick Beverley’s podcast titled, ‘The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone,’ the former defensive-minded guard essentially questions(at the 1:09:27 mark) why Blake Griffin is a heavy favorite to be selected into the Hall-of-Fame, especially over himself. Beverley also mentions that he was responsible for pushing the Clippers into the Western Conference Finals territory in 2021.
Furthermore, Beverley was solid in 2021, but he only averaged 4.9 points in the 17 games of LA’s playoff run. Thus, the credit primarily goes to Paul George and Terance Mann.
Moreover, Griffin is viewed as a soon-to-be choice because of his college feats at Oklahoma, from becoming the first overall pick in 2009 to adding numerous honors to his resume as one of the best dunkers in history.
That said, there are many reasons why Griffin has earned his recognition, and what Beverley said seems to be a failed attempt to posterize the king of posters.
