Over the years, one of the draft prospects the LA Clippers had extremely high hopes for was Brandon Boston Jr. He had such a promising journey to the league, as he went from a highly recruited five-star at Sierra Canyon to playing for one of the best basketball programs in the country with the Kentucky Wildcats. Granted, Boston Jr. struggled with the Wildcats and suffered an injury that hurt his stock, but his potential was still loud and clear.
When he arrived in LA, he had some solid performances, but his inconsistencies, poor shooting efficiency, and lack of physicality led the front office to move on. Since then, Boston Jr. had a brief stint with the New Orleans Pelicans before going overseas, and now he has a chance to return to the NBA with the Chicago Bulls on a training camp contract.
The Chicago Bulls are the perfect situation for Brandon Boston Jr.
Brandon Boston Jr. never really panned out in his stints with the LA Clippers and New Orleans because he was trying to make a name for himself on teams with several high-profile, established talents.
On the Clippers, who were competing for a championship, it was Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in front of him, as well as others like Norman Powell and Terance Mann. In New Orleans, Boston Jr. helped when they needed it, but ultimately, there was no reason to bring him back with Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, and Dejounte Murray on the team. Not to mention, Jeremiah Fears was drafted days before they declined his team option.
To add insult to injury, Boston Jr. suffered a major ankle injury in his time with the Pelicans.
However, with the Chicago Bulls, if he makes the official roster, they are exactly what he needs.
Why? Because they are in the midst of a full-on rebuild. There are no real stars, outside of Josh Giddey and Norman Powell. It’s literally just a bunch of youngsters, similar to Boston Jr.
There’s obviously nothing guaranteed in terms of opportunity. Still, if Boston Jr. flashes the signs he showed the Clippers and Pelicans to Chicago’s front office, plus whatever he’s learned overseas, they would be foolish not to keep him around for the long run.
If not, surely the kid will land a spot elsewhere.
As always, at the end of the day, Clipper Nation is thrilled to see Boston Jr. get what he deserves. We wish he worked out for LA, but still, seeing him on a training camp roster, working toward a secured deal, brings joy.
