Forgotten former Clipper showing why a second stint could benefit LA

It might be time to reunite.

Among the former members of the LA Clippers still in the playoffs, Tobias Harris, who has been widely forgotten given his tenure only lasted for 87 games, is arguably the best. He’s proven to be the only source of legitimate help for the Detroit Pistons, outside of Cade Cunningham, and because he is about to enter the free-agent market without any restrictions, the Clippers are seeing why a reunion would be an extremely smart move for the front office.

For reference, during five postseason games against the Orlando Magic, Harris has recorded 19.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals, shooting 44.6% from the floor. Additionally, it’s worth noting that in the game five win, with everything on the line down 3-1, the veteran wing scored 23, which was the third-highest total for both teams behind Cunningham(45) and Paolo Banchero(45).

That said, all of the good he brings to the table in consideration, the Clippers should go for a round two with Harris next to Kawhi Leonard and Darius Garland.

Despite his age, Tobias Harris can be a valuable asset on a contender

Though Tobias Harris is not the Detroit Pistons’ superstar, or even second option, he is one of the major reasons they were able to claim the Eastern Conference with 60 wins. Without his lethal scoring arsenal and veteran presence, would the Pistons have been the first seed? One can argue they probably wouldn’t have.

In fact, through 63 games, Harris averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, on a field goal percentage of 46.9% and three-point percentage of 36.8%. This is impressive for any role player, let alone one who is about to turn 34.

In free agency, Harris’ age may be why Detroit holds itself back in retaining him. He doesn’t fit their young scheme, and while he might still be helpful, the money spent on him could be used on a lucrative deal for the breakout center, Jalen Duren, or someone else at their prime.

Consequently, a contender, especially one like the LA Clippers, which previously had success with Harris, should be jumping for joy.

He surely still remembers certain faces from the front office, and, with no signs of a trade involving Kawhi Leonard in the works, Harris pushes the Clippers towards their dream: a championship.

He should be pursued regardless, but if the 15-year veteran is willing to accept a team-friendly contract, that’s even better.
