Forgotten Clippers draft pick has given Ty Lue evidence to leave him on the bench

Cam Christie just isn't good enough.

Going into year three, a player on the LA Clippers who is not talked about much is Cam Christie. He hasn’t really found a spot on the Clippers other than the bench, and the summer league was supposed to be his chance to prove himself worthy of real minutes. However, based on how Christie has performed thus far, all he has done is give head coach Tyronn Lue evidence to leave him right where he is heading into the most important season of his career.

For reference, in the two games he’s played over the last seven days, Christie has posted 22 points, 17 rebounds, 2 assists, and 8 turnovers, shooting 4-18 from the field and 2-6 from beyond the arc.

These numbers are concerning in every way, shape, and form. And, in all honesty, Lue wouldn’t be wrong at all to let Christie ride the bench until he absolutely needs him.

The 20-year-old has it coming for him, and there's just no other way to put it.

Cam Christie is not ready for a spot in the Clippers’ rotation

With two seasons under his belt and a team option next summer, one would expect a player in Cam Christie’s situation to be balling out whenever and wherever. It’s also an advantage for Christie that the LA Clippers are in the midst of a youth movement, as Tyronn Lue would be inclined to give him minutes because he’s so young.

Unfortunately, Christie is doing the complete opposite, and it’s significantly hurting his future, along with a chance at moving up in the current depth chart.

How so? Well, beyond the numbers mentioned above is the eye test, and Christie has failed it dramatically.

The former second-round pick doesn’t look decisive, can’t really leave a notable impact on either side of the ball, and overall, seems to be feeling the pressure of what’s ahead.

And, to make it worse, a possession that left a poor impression on his part occurred during a fast-break against the Utah Jazz. Instead of going up for a strong, confident finish with the defender in his rear, Christie missed an easy dunk.

That said, with little time left to flip the script and enough already seen, Christie might not be a member of the Clippers' roster for much longer. His last hope is to stay ready and dominate when Lue calls him up to play.
