Despite having one of the purest scorers in basketball in Devin Booker, help from Dillon Brooks, and a solid supporting cast, the Phoenix Suns are currently 1-2. According to Chris B. Haynes, frustration is rising in the Suns’ locker room because they lack a point guard to facilitate the offense. They are forcing Booker and Jalen Green to be playmakers, and while they can to a certain degree, that’s not their specialty.

What better solution than for the Suns to accept the proposal of Green, Collin Gillespie, and a future first-round pick to the LA Clippers for Darius Garland? The two-time All-Star immediately fixes Phoenix’s biggest issue, and on top of that, makes them a legitimate threat in the Western Conference.

Garland might soon be on the Clippers’ trade block anyway, given his poor offensive start.

Darius Garland would fix the Phoenix Suns’ point guard issues right away

Of all the playmakers expected to be on the market by the trade deadline in February, Darius Garland’s name might be at the top. He’s simply not what the LA Clippers need right now, and with the money he has left on his contract, they could be looking to move him soon.

Regarding the Phoenix Suns, though, he’s perfect for what they need. The 26-year-old brings a strong handle, pinpoint passes, and a high basketball IQ.

Over the course of his career, Garland has averaged 6.7 assists. Part of why he’s made a living at the highest level is that he’s mastered the art of creating easy baskets for his teammates.

Having him in Phoenix allows Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks to do what they do best offensively: score.

They won’t have to worry about bringing the ball up, navigating defensive pressure, or guiding everyone where they need to be.

With Garland, it gets even better; he can score the ball very well, and even pop off for 30+ on some occasions. This benefits everyone, as another bucket-getter in the mix takes pressure off the offense.

In return, the Clippers get a talented scorer in Jalen Green, an excellent bench piece in Collin Gillespie, and, most importantly, draft compensation.

The Clippers could also avoid a long-term commitment to Green, as he has an upcoming player option.

That said, this trade proposal is a win-win for both teams involved, and the Suns should agree to it without hesitation given Garland’s strengths.
