In the process of entering a new era, it is crucial for a team to have someone who is fearless, loves to get his hands dirty, and has the mentality that most are scared of. Dillon Brooks is that guy, and because the LA Clippers may be looking to ship Kawhi Leonard over the summer and start with a fresh set of youth, Lawrence Frank must pursue the veteran wing following their first-round disappointment against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
As of now, no one on the roster is capable of setting the tone the way Brooks is. He also has a proven track record of doing so, which increases his value, as the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets benefited greatly from his contributions.
That said, if the Suns deem him available for trade, he needs to end up in a Clipper uniform next season via trade by any means necessary.
Dillon Brooks has made it clear in so many ways why the Clippers need him
After trading Kevin Durant, the Phoenix Suns were not projected to be anywhere close to the seventh-best record in the Western Conference. Yet they did, and Dillon Brooks is arguably the primary reason.
Brooks did so through exceptional leadership, ensuring the entire locker room shared his mindset, and through player development of guys like Collin Gillespie and Oso Ighodaro, who were crucial to the team’s success.
But what hasn’t been mentioned thus far is Brooks’ on-court production. He had the regular season of an all-star, with averages of 20.2 points and 3.6 rebounds, while providing some of the best defense at his position in the entire league.
Then, the playoffs turned the corner, and Brooks decided to go nuclear. He had consecutive 30-point nights in games two and three, and overall, looked like the only player on the Suns who actually wanted to beat the odds and defeat the first-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder.
This speaks volumes, as, though he got swept, what he was doing didn’t go unnoticed.
So, to the LA Clippers, Brooks has made himself seem like a need rather than a want.
He can show Darius Garland a thing or two, build a strong mentality within the roster, and help the new-look Clippers surprise the world, as the Suns did, and make the playoffs.
The only question is what it will take for the Clippers to take Brooks away from the Suns' organization.
