Without a doubt, the biggest hole on the LA Clippers’ roster is at the center position. Everything seems uncertain, especially in the first and second units, and they only have a couple more months to figure things out. Well, it seems as if they’re on track, as Michael Scotto of ‘HoopsHype’ reported, that the Clippers are interested in Jock Landale, a player who defines the word underrated, in the free agent market.
Landale has been part of multiple teams since joining the league five years ago, and, based on last season in particular, he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He ended 2025-26, playing a total of 68 games for the Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks, averaging 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds, shooting 51.5% from the field and 38.3% from beyond the arc.
Those numbers look extremely good, and if the Clippers manage to sign him, it would be a move that doesn’t turn heads right away but will have people looking back and thinking, "Lawrence Frank is a genius."
Jock Landale would be such a good addition to the LA Clippers
Though loads of centers might have trouble trying to thrive in the LA Clippers system, with Jock Landale, it doesn’t take rocket science to come to the conclusion that he would do phenomenal right away.
In fact, Landale is the perfect modern-day center, as he can shoot the lights out. Not only did he drill three-pointers at a high percentage this past season, but he attempted nearly three per game.
On the court, Landale also sets screens very well, which works out excellently for Darius Garland, and he can get buckets inside the paint. Some of these areas last season’s starting center, Brook Lopez, struggled in, making the 30-year-old an instant offensive upgrade.
Additionally, Landale’s mentality is team-first. What demonstrates it? Two things: his game and how he handled the trade deadline when the Memphis Grizzlies traded him.
Landale was dealt to the Utah Jazz, then informed as soon as possible, just before leaving, that he’s going to end up with the Atlanta Hawks. So instead of waiting for the next flight, the big man drove his way to Atlanta to play the Jazz, coincidentally, where he dropped 26 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and four blocks.
That’s the winning mentality to have, and it goes to show that, all around, with everything he brings to the table, Landale is the center the Clippers need to push hard for.
