With less than three weeks until the NBA Draft, one would assume the LA Clippers have already worked out a ton of the top prospects, so they can then evaluate which fits the team best. However, the Clippers have only worked out one: Mikel Brown Jr. from the Louisville Cardinals, which indicates he is heavily favored to be snagged off the board with the fifth pick.
They could still schedule one with Keaton Wagler, and maybe even Darius Acuff Jr., but with little time left in between to make a proper examination with one of the top spots in the lottery, it seems that Brown Jr. is the soon-to-be newest member of the Clippers and eventual face of the franchise.
Of course, Clippers fans aren’t complaining, though, as Brown Jr. screams superstar in the NBA.
The Clippers are genius if they end up with Mikel Brown Jr.
A chunk of the LA Clippers' fans are torn between Mikel Brown Jr. and Keaton Wagler. Both have gained heavy steam as the prospect of the front office will select with the fifth overall pick, but if the draft workout indication pans out, and Brown Jr. is the guy taken, the Clippers will be looked at as geniuses in the near future.
While Wagler is by no means a bad choice, given all that was displayed for the Illinois Fighting Illini, for example, a career-high 46 points against the fourth-ranked Purdue, along with nine three-pointers made on 11 attempts, Brown Jr. is arguably a flawless basketball player. He brings so many things the Clippers will fall in love with.
He stands among the best of the best in his class in scoring, with the ability to do it at all three levels, is an excellent playmaker with room to grow, and has tools like ridiculous athleticism that could turn him into a great defender one day.
Is that not a perfect player? He’s the whole package, and at just 20 years of age, time is in his hands to become a superstar in the league.
That said, Brown Jr. should be the pick the Clippers go with. Everything about him has sold millions worldwide on his skill set, and, surely, very soon, no one will even think to question why the front office passed on all the other players available for the Louisville standout.
It’s like him proving the Clippers right is inevitable.
