Once the LA Clippers were sent home by Dallas, fans hoped superstar Kawhi Leonard would regain total health en route to the season opener. This was crucial for head coach Tyronn Lue's game plan, as he had to adjust to the exit of nine-time all-star Paul George.
Moreover, Leonard was supposed to be among many NBA stars competing for a gold medal on Team USA. However, given his injury history, it was in the best interest of the Clippers and the two-time champion if he did not participate.
Weeks passed, and Leonard's injury status was finally revealed to Clipper fans. Their hopes of becoming a top seed had sunk into the ocean when the former Defensive Player of the Year was ruled out indefinitely.
Just days before Christmas, insiders released updates in favor of Leonard’s return. Conversely, it may take longer than fans initially expected, as the coaching staff remains cautious about his health moving forward.
Head coach Tyronn Lue provides fans with the latest update on Kawhi Leonard’s return.
Originally, Kawhi Leonard was expected to be back in the lineup through the LA Clippers’ next contest. This was impeccable timing, as the Clippers were seeing success over several championship contenders.
Unfortunately, plans changed, as Tyronn Lue provided an update prior to their win over Memphis. Lue stated, “He’s still not ready yet. He still has some more 5-on-5 he needs to do before we allow him to get on the court. We don’t want to rush his situation."

Although these minor delays are not what fans anticipated, they are for the betterment of Leonard's long-term potential. Lue will need his superstar to remain healthy, and rushing him would be senseless considering how great the Clippers have been.
Following the divisional battle with the Warriors, the Clippers receive a three-day resting window before facing New Orleans. This becomes the new date for Leonard’s projected return, as he will have several opportunities to practice 5-on-5 with the active rotation.
That said, Leonard is on the cusp of finding his way back to the court, which should excite Clipper fans. It could take an extended period of time, but the playoff success will be worth the wait. In the meantime, Lue will continue to rely on his stars and contributing role players to dominate with the cards they have been dealt.
