Making a trade call to an opposing team, even if it may seem far-fetched, is always worth a try, as the outcome is not predictable. The NBA is a business, and with the different mindsets within front offices around the league, any offer that meets the criteria to be accepted could see the green light.

In fact, the LA Clippers have been a firsthand witness to the improbable, as Norman Powell was sent to Los Angeles amid a career year for a package centered around players who no longer play professionally in the United States.

Now, Powell has risen to the All-Star type beat, and this trade was regarded as a massive loss for the Trail Blazers as Keon Johnson, the third player in the deal with Eric Bledsoe and Justise Winslow, was shipped in the blockbuster Damian Lillard package to the Phoenix Suns.

Moreover, the takeaway here is that any attempt is worth a try, and the Boston Celtics did something very similar to Portland Monday night. They finally moved the weight of Jrue Holiday’s contract to the Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons and two second-round picks.

This is a trade the Clippers could have easily made to acquire Simons, but because the front office appears to have a different mentality this summer or is not aggressive enough, they missed out on a young, score-first guard for the future.

The LA Clippers’ content mindset is something fans have realized once again after the Boston Celtics traded for Anfernee Simons

The LA Clippers may have a blueprint in mind in terms of the players they aspire to land this summer, but the front office is not aggressive enough in chasing down who would be best for them. They are not a rumored team to move up in the draft, which is concerning, and they sat back and relaxed when they could have easily called the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons, an elite three-level machine.

They have countless second-round picks available for trade and could have also shipped Drew Eubanks with Norman Powell to make ends meet. Instead, they watched Brad Stevens help the Boston Celtics’ future by adding Simons for a declining veteran in Jrue Holiday and picks.

This is disappointing, as Simons could have helped the Clippers significantly in the long term through a trade that would have given the home team, Portland, a much more prosperous return.
