The LA Clippers have had a handful of high-end role players over the years. Some of the more notable ones that immediately come to mind are Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, and Tobias Harris. This is the tier of guys who weren’t necessarily stars, but still produced at an elite level for the Clippers.
However, one of the more forgotten ones is Danilo Gallinari. In an interview with “HoopsHype,” Gallinari opened up about his career and highlighted his biggest regret: signing a one-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks instead of a two-year deal with the Clippers. This is something LA can agree with, as they could’ve really used his expertise in the playoffs, even if he was at the final stage of his career.
For reference, in 2023-24, which was the only year of the big-three experiment with James Harden, Paul George, and Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers lost in seven games in the first round to the Dallas Mavericks.
Danilo Gallinari would’ve been extremely helpful to the Clippers in 2024
In a conversation with “HoopsHype,” Danilo Gallinari revealed news no one knew: the LA Clippers approached him with a two-year offer after the Detroit Pistons waived him. Still, despite the shorter term, Gallinari signed a veteran minimum deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.
At the moment, Gallinari’s decision to go to Milwaukee didn’t seem like a bad move, as the Bucks had a championship-level roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Looking back, though, Gallinari regrets doing so, and it’s pretty safe to say the Clippers could say the same, particularly because of what he would’ve provided during the postseason.
Everyone can agree the 2024 playoffs were rough. Even with three superstars, there were times when the offense felt stagnant, and the team seemed a step behind.
Well, Gallinari’s services could’ve fixed that. Granted, he was far from his prime, but he could always space the floor, crash the glass, and operate with a strong IQ.
Additionally, Gallinari’s experience would’ve come in clutch in the locker room each time the team was down and facing adversity. It would’ve also helped that he had familiarity with the system.
Hence, the Clippers’ front office offered him a two-year deal because they knew what he could bring to the table.
Nonetheless, Gallinari had an excellent career. He amassed numerous heights and played a role on many different teams, which commands high volumes of respect and praise.
