Following years of searching for a quality backup center, the LA Clippers had struck gold by trading for Mason Plumlee at the deadline. While he may have flaws, his game is perfect for the second unit, especially in this team’s pursuit of winning a championship.
Moreover, once he was traded to LA at the deadline, fans were convinced that the Clippers finally had the pieces in play to make a run. Although injuries held the roster back, Plumlee exceeded expectations in the regular season and the playoffs.
Plumlee’s inside scoring and playmaking abilities combine exceptionally well with what Russell Westbrook brings when he’s on the floor. Not to mention he is the ideal center Ty Lue would like to have on the floor once Ivica Zubac takes a breather.
Mason Plumlee returns to the LA Clippers on a one-year deal.
Though several teams expressed interest in Mason Plumlee, he chose to resign with the LA Clippers on a one-year, $5 million deal. This is an excellent bargain for the front office, as they hope to add more star power to the current rotation.
Last season, the former Duke product averaged 7.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists through 23 games with the Clippers. What’s more, he shot a ridiculous 72.7% from the field. This essentially means that Plumlee is nearly perfect around the rim.
That said, Plumlee’s experience and skillset can help push the LA Clippers into one of the top seeds in the Western Conference. This was a phenomenal signing by the front office, proving they are working as hard as possible to win a championship.
