As the LA Clippers have failed to meet their expectations, it is relatively clear several roster moves are in the works. The front office must acquire another star and a player who brings energy off the bench. While the market has multiple suitors, one of the biggest names is the score-first wing, Carmelo Anthony.

Though Anthony has had a phenomenal career, his age limits his impact on the court. In particular, his defense is the main reason the front office should avoid making the signing. This would ultimately keep the Clippers from attaining their goal.

In addition, Anthony would likely be playing minimal minutes if the Clippers were to make the acquisition. It would make much more sense for the front office to pursue a contributor who hustles on defense and creates extra opportunities for his teammates. Anthony’s game does not meet the team’s requirements, making it difficult for head coach Tyronn Lue to construct a solid game plan.

Carmelo Anthony is not the answer the LA Clippers are looking for.

While the LA Clippers’ offense has been struggling, a score-first player like Carmelo Anthony is the last thing the team needs. Although Anthony may be able to chemistry, his impact will keep the franchise back from winning a championship. Instead, the front office should look for a player who can quickly move the ball and keep the offense flowing smoothly.

Moreover, Anthony gives the Clippers nothing more than they already have. Spending money on a player who will not help the team in the long run, is unreasonable. Not to mention Anthony’s efficiency adds to his limited impact.

Last season for the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony finished with 13.3 points per game while shooting 44.1% from the field. Though these numbers may seem average, he attempted 10.5 shots in 26.0 minutes. This shows how his play style will limit the offense and make the opposing team’s job much more manageable.

That said, the LA Clippers should look into other options. There are plenty of scorers on the market who can contribute in more ways than Anthony can. Winning a title is the season’s theme, and Anthony does not give the Clippers a better shot at their aspirations.
